Brussels, 13 December 2017 – Representatives from the European Member States in the EU Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed (SCOPAFF) today voted in favour of a revised European Commission proposal on identification criteria for endocrine disrupting chemicals in pesticides, also known as hormone disruptors or EDCs.
The EDC-Free Europe coalition has repeatedly warned that the proposed criteria were not sufficient to protect human health and the environment. EDC-Free Europe campaign partners, together with SumOfUs, collected signatures from over 467K Europeans urging the European Commission to adapt its proposal and to stand up for health.
EDC-Free Europe campaign partners across Europe reacted to the European Member States’ vote on the EDC criteria:
Health and Environment Alliance (HEAL) – EU Member States adopt revised EDC proposal – A step in the right direction, but not enough
Pesticide Action Network Europe (PAN-Europe) – An unsettling compromise: Member States support Commission’s unfit proposal on hormone disruptors
