Promoting alternatives to using pesticides is a great way to protect our health and the environment from toxic endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs). This is why every March, EDC-Free Europe partner Générations Futures organises the Pesticide Action Week, to raise awareness and build an international network for a pesticide-free world.
Every year, more than 1,000 events are organised all across Europe by citizens, associations, unions and regional authorities. You can also be a part in this movement and organise an online conference, movie screening, or meet-up – the sky is the limit!
The European Commission already acknowledged the urgent need to reduce our dependency on pesticides and to increase organic agriculture by adopting its Farm to Fork Strategy in May of last year. The ambition set is to reduce the overall use and risk of chemical pesticides by 50% by 2030.
Here are three ways to get involved during Pesticide Action Week:
- Learn more about Pesticide Action Week and show your support on social media: Download the poster for Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and follow @Alter_Pesticide on Twitter for live updates.
- Add your voice to the European Citizens’ Initiative “Save Bees and Farmers”: this petition, supported by many members of the EDC-Free Europe campaign, demands the European Commission and EU Parliament reform the current EU agricultural policy to better protect health, save bees and support EU farmers to phase-out of the use of synthetic pesticides. Take a few minutes to sign the petition (available in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish) and share with your network!
