On 16 July 2019, the British Parliamentary Environmental Audit Committee (EAC) published the report ‘Toxic Chemicals in Everyday Life’ following its inquiry into the subject. The EAC declares that “current regulation does not account for the cocktail of chemicals we are exposed to”, and that hazardous chemicals are now “ubiquitous in humans and the environment”.

The committee makes a wide range of important recommendations. It points in particular at the need to reduce exposure to toxic chemicals in homes, including flame retardants in furniture, and proposes a set of measures to act upon.
